SDC Manufacturing is a family run business based in Exeter supplying high quality rigid kitchen and bedroom carcasses to the trade. David Barrett founded the business some 26 years ago, and over the years has seen the business expand exponentially, now supplying hundreds of customers across the South West, and offering kitchens in various styles from Shaker MDF to solid wood to painted finishes.
Today the factory is equipped with state of the art Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, enabling maximum production. Earlier this year David approached Ignition to help purchase a replacement for their 12 year-old saw. A new Biesse Selco SK4 Panel Saw and Winstore K3 Storage System would not only speed up cutting, but provide a number of additional functions via a computer programme run from the control room.
At 10m x 12m, the new machinery is no small piece of equipment, and comes with a fairly hefty price tag, but the clear benefits to production meant that the purchase made sound business sense, and would see SDC reaping the rewards for many years to come, as David Barrett confirms:
“In the old days we used to manually lift the big boards onto the saw to be cut, but now this is all handled by the Winstore machine, which makes the process much easier and quicker. The new Winstore not only stores and stacks the boards, but selects and loads them onto the saw too.
“Customers these days don’t want to wait for their kitchens – they expect a quick turn-around and delivery. Our new Panel Saw and Winstore System helps us achieve this without compromising on quality.”
He continues: “I was very impressed with the team at Ignition. They are understanding and professional to deal with, and responded promptly. In fact, the whole process was very straightforward. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them and intend to be in touch again soon to discuss finance for a new CNC drilling machine, to keep up with the demand!”
